The next gift Paul mentions is the gift of interpretation of tongues (v 10). This gift is someone who is able to interpret another tongue or language. I am bilingual and can speak English and Spanish but I would not say that I have this gift necessarily. Some have a natural gift or ability to learn a foreign language. It was not natural nor did it come easy for me. For those who this is easy, then they may be imbued with such a gift. If anyone was speaking in tongues in the church, there absolutely had to be someone there to interpret or they were to be silent. And no more than one person was to speak in tongues because there is only one interpreter available to translate at a time. If several were speaking in tongues at the same time, there would be confusion and God is not the author of confusion, but He is the God of order (1 Cor 14:33). It would not be edifying the church to have several speaking in tongues at the same time and with no one to interpret. Tongues are a sign for unbelievers and not for the church. Paul writes, “In the Law it is written: ‘With other tongues and through the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.’ Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers” (1 Cor. 14: 21-22). Isaiah 28:11-12 is where Paul quotes Isaiah the prophet, “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, ‘This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.’” This clearly indicates that the gift of tongues (Greek for languages) and the interpretation of them is that of a known language as a witness to unbelievers.

My friend can see spirit beings or ghosts. She can also see something that yet hasn’t happened. For example; she can just sitting on the couch watching tv and suddenly an image (vision) of an event (that happen to someone else not her) appear right in front of her and she doesn’t know why she see it but then it becomes a reality later. She said she’s not comfortable with her ability because sometimes what she can see is something that she doesn’t wanna know or someone’s privacy. What do you think about this? DO you consider this is a gift? thankyouu so much and I apologise for my English. I hope it’s good enough
I am not advocating people stop taking their medication. I never do, if someone comes to me saying they have been healed; I always advocate that they consult their doctor for confirmation. My point about seeking God in the small is that in the West we defer to medication for the little things BEFORE prayer, whereas believers in less developed parts of the world see regular and sustained physical healing because their point of reference if often God first.

I was not even aware that there was a NAME for this kind of thing until more recent years …it was “Higher Criticism’ that was one of the key elements along with many other ‘isms’ added to the faith …going back to the most basic way that the Serpent used and still finds most effective to deconstruct people’s hope in learning truth from the Bible , the scriptures that are GOD breathed and trustworthy are being ripped apart by anti christian ‘scholars’ who are nothing more than skeptics and workers of evil intent upon destroying the faith of those who are unstable and unlearned at the earliest age possible. Went to ER and of course five hrs later after sitting still I was much better. Dr could hear wheezing comming from throat but said that while I may have asthma, that would not cause me to loose voice for this long. Ordered chest and throat xray which were clear. Said that something is causing airway obstruction/swelling which is not good, we need to find cause because they hospitalize people for airway issues. Ordered me to see specialist so he can scope my airway and determine the cause…it can be as simple as reflux disease, which I am not having symptoms of, or it can be much more serious. In meantime, I was put on double dose of steroids for five days. Plus reflux meds in case that the case until I can see specialist.
Thank you Shirley for your comment. I am not saying in this article that healings still do not occur but the days of just having a shadow passed over someone would heal them. Who do you know that can heal everyone in every instance like the apostles could? If so, they should empty the hospitals or children’s cancer wards. That is my point. God can heal anyone He wants and He can use anyone He wants but He never promises to heal everyone at every time, everywhere. God alone heals. It is not the person who heals but God who enables those to pray for or lay on hands for SOME to be healed but certainly not all. I am not limiting God or putting Him in a box. If you know someone who has the gift of healing, then get a camera, head to the hospitals and children’s cancer wards and empty them…and then I will believe. God does still heal yes, but not everyone. That was the same then, and yesterday, remember Paul prayed three times and was never healed. Scripture Images
In my life as a Christian for the past 30+ years, especially during the early years; I have heard various different doctrines and teaching about the word of God, the Bible. Because I was being taught by people who were very sincere in what they were teaching, but often very sincerely wrong in their understanding of the word of God. This caused much confusion. And I confess that even with the gift of teaching upon my life I can fall into the same category. Biblical Verses Image
She was diagnosed with a severe Thiamin deficiency after a surgery a couple of months prior, and succumbed to a very rapidly occurring brain disorder called Wernike’s disease. in the days before se lost her ability to speak, she spoke for hours each day to Abba, both in English, and in a tongue unknown to me. I did not seek to interpret this, as the conversation was between her and Abba. In her times of conversation, she was at total peace. When my bride finally left to be with Abba, the look on her face was one of total peace.
A few months ago I was questioning my love for God during a time of prayer Then the Holy Spirit told me that I do love God. He told me that the love of God shed abroad in my in is a love from God and a love for God. He told me to keep that love alive and active what I had to do was declare that love every day all during the day. Then He told me to go to Proverbs 18:19-20 showing that I can awaken that love by speaking life to it. He went on to tell me even if I don’t feel like I love God, just to declare it anyway and my love for Him will remain alive in me. I have read Romans chapter 5 countless times in my 30 years as a Christian, but I could not have the understanding of this verse outside of the teaching of the Holy Spirit Bible Verse Wall Art
He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay (called discernment).” These are important gifts and some of them are similar to but different from the gifts of the Spirit that Paul talks about in the New Testament in I Corinthians chapter twelve. When we all stand before God on that day we will have nothing to boast of but His grace. I am not trying to prove that I have a great knowledge of the Bible better than you do. Although I may not agree with everything you may teach, you are my Brother in Christ and I love you. That is the most important thing to me. That is what we will be judged for on that great day, if we loved God with all that is within us, and did we love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
I was saved at the age of 4 and yearned to receive the gift of speaking in tongues since I was around 12. I would ask God for it, but He had His own timing for me to receive the gift. I received it in the beginning of huge trials I’ve been going through for the past 2 years (I’m now 30–finances, buying a home that the inspector lied about and the home was unhealthy to live in, in turn creating marital struggles, and dealing with severe depression in my spouse and the way he treats me because of his depression). I know it has different uses, but I feel God gave it to me in order to pray and speak to Him about what I’m going through. I definitely run out of things to say and when I’ve run out of words, I begin speaking in tongues—I’ve found that when I have spoke in tongues it’s always been when I’ve hit my breaking point in my situations and I’m crying out in desperation to the Lord. Many times I will pray in tongues for awhile and then it turns into beautiful worship songs. As it goes on my tears and crying calm down and I feel more and more calm and at peace. It’s been a real blessing and I’m trying to learn more and more about uses, but for now its been a way for God to help me through these hardships and hurt.

While many white musicians gravitated toward country, folk, and old-timey music to express their spirituality outside of traditional Christian hymns, Black Gospel music drew heavily upon the traditional spirituals that had been passed down from the days of slavery, picking up its more driving rhythmic emphasis from blues and early jazz. Composer and singer Thomas A. Dorsey crystallized the style in 1932 with his epochal "Take My Hand, Precious Lord," and went on to compose a great many songs that later became standards. When performed in the churches, the music was traditionally sung by a choir, with individual soloists sometimes taking the spotlight; this often happened in a form known as "call and response," in which either the choir or the soloist would repeat and/or answer the lyric which had just been sung by the other, with the soloist improvising embellishments of the melody for greater emphasis. As the music developed, these soloists became more and more virtuosic, performing with wild emotion (and, in the South, physicality) in order to properly express the spiritual ecstasy the music was meant to evoke. The music was quite egalitarian in terms of gender, as both male and female performers -- Brother Joe May, Rev. James Cleveland, Mahalia Jackson, the Clara Ward Singers, etc. -- gained wide renown among both black and white audiences. The small-group format was also prevalent, with major figures including the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, the Soul Stirrers, the Swan Silvertones, and the Dixie Hummingbirds; in general, these groups placed a greater premium on smooth vocal harmonies, although some performances could approach the raucous energy (if not quite the huge sound) of a choir-with-soloist group. As the years progressed, black gospel and black popular music influenced and borrowed from one another, reflecting the gradual change of emphasis toward R&B; black gospel also had an enormous impact on the development of soul music, which directed gospel's spiritual intensity into more secular concerns, and included a great many performers whose musical skills were developed in the church. As a recognizable style unto itself, black gospel music largely ceased to develop around the 1970s; progressing racial attitudes had helped black popular music reach wider audiences (and become more lucrative) than ever before, and tastes had turned towards the earthy hedonism of funk and the highly arranged, sophisticated Philly soul sound. The former wasn't quite appropriate for worship, and it wasn't all that practical to duplicate the latter in church services. However, the traditional black gospel sound survived intact and was eventually augmented by contemporary gospel (an '80s/'90s variation strongly influenced by latter-day urban R&B); plus, singers like Whitney Houston continued to develop within its ranks.
