When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. ... Bible Scripture Images
Greetings cat If you could please give me the scriptures that says that the time of tongues have passed and we don,t need them in the modern day church . Im not writeing this to sound mean but in love Im the type of a person that has to have bible proof . In acts chp 2 when they received the Holy Spirit peter said this is what the prophet joel said would come to pass in the last days so we must assume the last days started back then but he goes on to mention in the 20th verse all the way up to the great and notable day of the lord the second comeing of the lord so if I am understanding him he is saying he will pour his spirit out upon all flesh up until that time .in verse 33 this is what you now see and hear if joels prophesy started there at pentacost and reaches all the way till the lord comes back and that’s what they were seeing and hearing then they still should be seeing and hearing today joels prophesy . Im just a country man ive not went to a bible college and I am still in search of answers from the word of god so please don,t misunderstand what I have written it is in love and I am nothing and Jesus and his word is every thing .
Thank you pastor Jack for your words i have forgotten what it means to be under attack. My mind is so focused on now that i don’t remember the big picture of what God is doing. I have reviewed the article you have shown me, i have all four of those signs, it is clear that Satan is attacking. I will kep pressing in to God as well as being excited for my baptism tomorrow.
The book of Acts show many examples of new Christians receiving the Spirit and speaking in tongues, but it also speaks of people believing the gospel without this experience. I don’t believe that one who does not “speak in tongues” is not indwelt by the Holy Spirit which we all receive when we are born again. I also don’t believe the tongues described in Acts chapter 2 and the tongues spoken of in 1st Cor. 12-14. You say that Paul was reproving the Corinthian church for using tongues in a pagan way. The scriptures do not say this. I believe Paul was telling them this and all other gifts were to be used for the edifying of the church and if others could not understand what was being said it would not edify them. Or if an unbeliever would come into a meeting with several people speaking in tongues they would think the church was a bunch of lunatics. Paul says that whoever speaks in an unknown tongue should pray for the interpretation of it so the church could be edified. Tongues described in 1stCor. Is a gift where believer can pray to God “spirit to Spirit” 1Cor. 14:14-15. I do not believe these tongues were meant to be understood by the human mind. Bible Scripture Images
Dreams are just random and so you don’t want to put too much importance into what you dream. Frequently, if you pray and read your Bible before bedtime, there is a tendency to have better dreams and more peaceful sleep. Instead of focusing on your gifts, focus on the fruits for Jesus said that they will know you by your fruits and not by your gifts. The fruits of the Spirit are often overlooked and these found in Eph 5 among other places. Thank you Tam for your comment. Bible Verse Wall Art
Then Hazael king of Aram went up and fought against Gath and captured it, and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem. Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own sacred things and all the gold that was found among the treasuries of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent them to Hazael king of Aram. Then he went away from Jerusalem.

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. Greetings Cynthia thank you for your reply let me start by saying tho I do speak in tongues some times it is not a massage with interpatation I find that when I am prazeing god or praying some times the holy spirit moves on me and I may utter words not in English but they allways help me to give god the glory and then I will keep prazeing and praying in English yes if we pray in tongues or English or any learned language god hears his children because he hears our heart you do not have to speak in tongues to be saved and go to heaven I find that they do edify me as I feel gods spirit moving in me and upon me reasureing me . I will pray in the spirit ( tongues ) and I will pray with my understanding ( English ) I have never tried to fake tongues in any way . when I was kneeling in a alter praying one night never had spoke in tongues before the Holy spirit moved upon me and I started speaking in tongues . I don,t speak in tongues all the time I pray in English most of the time . The Holy spirit is a gift from the father and Jesus to every born again child of god . The gifts of the spirit are gifts from him to the church . Peter said you shall receive the gift of the Holy spirit if you repent and are babtized . the spirit gives the gifts to each person as he wills .but sometimes I don,t understand why people beleave that the Holy Spirit still gives the other gifts to people but they have a hard time beleaving that he give tongues to people today . lets keep preaching Jesus and him crusafied and try to get all the lost souls into the fold we can time is running out . I don’t mean to be rude but I believe in the gift of healing. For one, I have experienced it so many times in my church. If someone has a headache, backache, or even a bad back we praid over the people that had these pains and if it didn’t work the first time it worked the second. Also we have a 14 year old boy named Sam that goes to my church and he is currently in a wheel chair due to his muscle tissue deteriorating in his legs. During church camp another church came to us and asked if they could pray over him with us and so at 10:00 at night. So of course we said yes because we believe he will not be in this wheelchair for lon. So we prayed over Sam for over two hours and what we saw in that amount of time was amazing. We could literally see his muscle tissue growing back and the blood was flowing through his legs again. He felt great and we did also. He’s not out of the chair yet but people in our church and other churches have had visions of him being out of that chair and we strongly believe that. What I’m trying to say is, obvisiouly you can’t heal anyone if you don’t believe they can be healed. As long as you have the Holy Spirit in you and the faith and belief it can be done. The first gift Paul mentions is the gift of wisdom (v 8). It is listed first perhaps because it is foundational to the church and this is a gift that the believer can earnestly desire (v 31). Wisdom is clearly taught in the Word of God and “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding” (Psalm 111:10). This is the precious gift that Solomon asked for and received from God to be able to rightly rule God‘s nation (I Kings 3:12). With this wisdom, Solomon could understand what do in difficult decisions. Wisdom is also associated with fearing the Lord. Fear is simply standing in awe of God in reverence and respect. It entails loving His Word and being obedient to what it says. There is no wisdom in disobedience. This means that if some members are revering God’s laws and statutes, including loving God and loving your neighbor, that many members in the church can have this gift. Of course, many can not have it either. This gift is of supreme importance for members in the Body of Christ for if we can love God and our neighbor, we can greatly contribute to the church and those outside of the church. This love is another way of showing unbelievers and attracting them to Christ by it (John 13:35).
The next gift of the Spirit Paul mentions is the gift of faith (v 9). Those with this gift are truly amazing in how they see things. They tend to exude confidence in all situations. For example, our church deacon has said about our church growth “when” it grows we will need more Sunday school books, while others say “if” we grow we will need additional books. I met an evangelist once that spoke about things as if they already had existed or had come to pass. He spoke about finances that God would provide while simultaneously have nothing to show for it in the church’s bank account. He would always later prove to be right. This is a person more like God. He sees things that aren’t as if they already are!

Thank you for your article , I don’t agree with you when you said healing is of the new testament. In a way you’re saying that the God that worked with the apostles in the new testament is not the same working with us today when the Word of God clearly tells us he’s the same yesterday, today and forever. And since these is the same God, what he did yesterday he can also do today and forever. Please let’s stop limiting our God we put him in a box and he’s bigger than a box. Healing is for our time just like it was in the old and new testament IT IS THE SAME TODAY. HE IS THE SAME GOD. Bible Scripture Images
I have shared the word with many Brothers concerning their marriages and God has done wonderful things for them in their marriages. For example, there was one Brother who was calling me almost daily practically crying about what he was going through with his wife. One time he and his wife had come over my house to have dinner with my wife and me. During our time at the table I shared with him what the Spirit had spoken to me before I was married. This turn on a light for this Brother and he went back home and started to attack his wife with this kind of love. Within a month and a half his wife changed from being a roaring lion to becoming a gentle lamb. Months later while speaking with his wife, she told my wife that she could not resist the love of God she was getting from her husband and she just had to submit to it.
While many white musicians gravitated toward country, folk, and old-timey music to express their spirituality outside of traditional Christian hymns, Black Gospel music drew heavily upon the traditional spirituals that had been passed down from the days of slavery, picking up its more driving rhythmic emphasis from blues and early jazz. Composer and singer Thomas A. Dorsey crystallized the style in 1932 with his epochal "Take My Hand, Precious Lord," and went on to compose a great many songs that later became standards. When performed in the churches, the music was traditionally sung by a choir, with individual soloists sometimes taking the spotlight; this often happened in a form known as "call and response," in which either the choir or the soloist would repeat and/or answer the lyric which had just been sung by the other, with the soloist improvising embellishments of the melody for greater emphasis. As the music developed, these soloists became more and more virtuosic, performing with wild emotion (and, in the South, physicality) in order to properly express the spiritual ecstasy the music was meant to evoke. The music was quite egalitarian in terms of gender, as both male and female performers -- Brother Joe May, Rev. James Cleveland, Mahalia Jackson, the Clara Ward Singers, etc. -- gained wide renown among both black and white audiences. The small-group format was also prevalent, with major figures including the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, the Soul Stirrers, the Swan Silvertones, and the Dixie Hummingbirds; in general, these groups placed a greater premium on smooth vocal harmonies, although some performances could approach the raucous energy (if not quite the huge sound) of a choir-with-soloist group. As the years progressed, black gospel and black popular music influenced and borrowed from one another, reflecting the gradual change of emphasis toward R&B; black gospel also had an enormous impact on the development of soul music, which directed gospel's spiritual intensity into more secular concerns, and included a great many performers whose musical skills were developed in the church. As a recognizable style unto itself, black gospel music largely ceased to develop around the 1970s; progressing racial attitudes had helped black popular music reach wider audiences (and become more lucrative) than ever before, and tastes had turned towards the earthy hedonism of funk and the highly arranged, sophisticated Philly soul sound. The former wasn't quite appropriate for worship, and it wasn't all that practical to duplicate the latter in church services. However, the traditional black gospel sound survived intact and was eventually augmented by contemporary gospel (an '80s/'90s variation strongly influenced by latter-day urban R&B); plus, singers like Whitney Houston continued to develop within its ranks. Sadly, many people will look at us and judge us by appearances and as we’ve already read, they can miss-read us because they don’t see what’s on the inside which is what is of ultimate importance.  Jesus said “You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one” (John 8:15).  Every time that someone looks at us and they judge us by appearances, they are judging us by human standards and very likely miss-judging us.  What they can’t see is what is most important anyway.  The religious leaders of Jesus’ day were only concerned with what people saw them doing but God knew their hearts and saw that they were inwardly full of sin. The gift of “miraculous powers“ is another gift of the Spirit that appears to be unique to the New Testament church (10). This may also be associated with faith healers who claim that that have the gift of miraculous powers but they must remember that any gift or its results are always credited to the spirit and not to humans. It could also be attributed to those who are prayer warriors. There is an elderly lady that I know I want her praying for me. I have had some pretty interesting results when this lady has prayed for me. I would call some of the things that have happened miraculous in some ways. The greatest miracles that occur today are, for the most part, the miracle of human conversion. I see this as the greatest miracle of all since only the Spirit of God can illuminate the Word of God and reveal to us Who Jesus Christ is (John 6:44, Matt 16:17). Bible Scripture Images
The next gift is the ability to speak in different tongues (v 10). This has been one of the most controversial and most misunderstood gifts of all. When the original outpouring of the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost, there were many speaking in tongues. Paul wrote about tongues extensively in 1 Corinthians, chapters twelve through fourteen, but he was reproving the Corinthians for misusing the gift. It’s very difficult out of this passage to get any kind of mandate to speak in tongues, to get any kind of affirmation that this is something to be sought, because what you have here are primarily corrective orders given to the Corinthians. They had actually prostituted the gift of tongues into something pagan that wasn’t even representative of the work of the Spirit. All you need to do is to go back to Acts 2 and read verse 4, “They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other languages”. The literal translation in Greek is “glossa” and means tongues. This same word “glossa” (language) is used again in Acts 2:11. This means it is a known language not some unknown tongue. Then it says (in Acts 2:5-11) that there were unbelievers present at Pentecost and were hearing God’s message in their own “dialektos” dialects or language: “Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues” (dialektos or dialects)! So there were unbelievers present at Pentecost hearing God’s message in their own languages and their own local dialects, not ecstatic gibberish.
What happened next truly changed my life. As I was working up the courage to do what I knew I had to do, I felt in my presence beside me, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit said to me; “If you do this I WILL take you home to be with me. But, before you do, think about the impact on your two sons. Who will finish raising them? My ex-wife is an unbeliever, and I KNEW that they would grow up without the knowledge of our Jesus and our Father. Through many tears, I gently laid the pistol back in it’s drawer, laid down in bed, and proceeded to speak to Abba in a spiritual language I had never heard before, for the space of about two hours. Never had done this before. I speak in tongues quite a bit since. I received the gift of speaking in tongues, and interpreting spoken tongues that night. I didn’t seek the gift, but if Abba wanted me to have it, I will certainly not reject it.
Hi Jerry…Okay if I am not misunderstanding what you are asking, wanting to know why so many Christians are against the modern practice of tongue while they easily accept the other gifts of the spirit, the simplest answer is that the time for tongues as a gift benefiting the church has past with pentecost. As Pastor Jack said many time before, this was a signs gift given to glorify God and prove Christ deity! Just like so many big in your face miracles like the feeding of the loaves and fish. These things proved to the Jews and the gentiles that Christ was the son of God. It was also necessary for the spreading of the word and the formation of the new church. This is why it was never to be used in public without an interpreter…It was so that foreigners could understand what was being preached and to provide prophesy. The reason we do not practice it today is because it is simply not needed in the modern church. The time of prophesy has ended and we are in the time of the fulfillment of prophesy for the coming of the end times. We can preach in any language needed either because we have ministers of all nationalities and in most every country, or we can use interpreters. Miracles do still happen and so they are still a valid church gift of the Spirit but even those have changed…We have miracles happen all around us if we open our eyes and accept God, we can see them. However we no longer need the parting of seas, etc. We don’t need big signs to say see God is real…believe! The bible tells us that once the church was established and Christ had returned to his father, we are to believe by faith, not signs. When big churches tell people they must speak in tongues to show salvation, that is not biblical teaching. Also the fact they have no interpreters is not biblical. Finally the fact that many times they are in a frenzy and babbling in no actual language is not biblical, not of God, and sometimes possibly of the enemy not God! God is never the Lord of confusion! With that said, the bible says if it is done in private ( such as in your own Prayer life), because it can not be translated, it is to remain between you and God! I won’t say it could not happen in private but than that makes it a personnel experience and therefore not a gift of the Spirit…Gift of the spirit are not for personnel edification! So as long as this is not happening in church without proper interpretation, than that is between you and God. The other gift that are not signs gifts are still in use/effect today because they have a place in the edification of the whole church. I am sure that if you have tongues as a private gift, you still have one or two more gifts that fall into the catagory of Gifts of the Spirit which are still needed and used validly within the church today! However, the most important gift should be seen within all believers and that is thee most important Fruit of the Spirit…Charity/Love…That which we are all to be known by! Scripture Images

I have overcome bronchitis and pneumonia in the distant past and thought those days were over. This feels like a different thing …maybe allergies….which up to now did not bother my lungs . Being in this kind of environment with long periods of rain maybe is not the best but I have always gone through without this sort of effect that has lasted so long.

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood ... Bible Scripture Images
Genesis 1:26-27 “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.
Thank you my friend. this is not normal and you won’t find such a thing in the Bible and there is no gift of what your friend describes. Let me ask, has your friend ever repented and trusted in Christ? Are they in a Bible-believing church? Have they talked with their pastor, or do they even have one? What is their prayer life like? Does your friend spend much time in the Bible? If they are not saved, they may be under demonic influence. There is no gift like what you mentioned anywhere in the Bible, so I fear it could be an evil spirit inhabiting her. Bible Scripture Images

Amen Roger. This is clear to me my friend. I believe that sometimes…perhaps many times…the education of seminary and the effect that this has on men creates a vanity or pride and Paul was so right when he said that knowledge puffs up. That is a brilliant, Holy Spirit-inspired comment when you said that God’s love is a love from God and a love for God for we couldn’t love Him unless He first loved us. Great point and you said it well…perhaps better than I have ever heard. It is obvious to me, even in your first 2 comments and not knowing you well at all (yet!) that you indeed do have a gift for teaching. I can sense that. Something you said in your first comment was so good too…the more that I know God and the Word of God the more I see just how little I know God and the Word of God. I am so embracing that. Me too! In fact, the more I see God and His perfect holiness, the more I see my awful sinfulness. As He is clearly seen more and more holy from the study of His Word, the more and more I see just how much of a wretch I am and like Isaiah, before services, I need that “coal” touching my lips, being unclean, and to speak only what the Holy Spirit would have me speak. Thank you Roger. Your humility is going to make you an even better teacher. May I remain as humble because God is opposed (literal translation “at war with”) to the proud but gives grace only to the humble…like you sir. I thank God for you.

I agree with you. When all is said and done, The most important thing is people knowledge of who Jesus is and what He has done for mankind. I have experienced the reality of this salvation when I came into a knowledge of His salvation while planning to commit suicide. The Bible is more than just ink written on pages. I am not just waiting to just die and go to heaven. I have seen them reality of it. I know we are to live by faith no by sight. Jesus said “Joh 17:3 “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” The only way we can experience eternal life in this way is by the teaching, and leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit who has been left for us to keep us walking into a greater knowledge of God and His Son Jesus. This is my hearts desire fo myself and every other Christiann. Scripture Images
