My friend can see spirit beings or ghosts. She can also see something that yet hasn’t happened. For example; she can just sitting on the couch watching tv and suddenly an image (vision) of an event (that happen to someone else not her) appear right in front of her and she doesn’t know why she see it but then it becomes a reality later. She said she’s not comfortable with her ability because sometimes what she can see is something that she doesn’t wanna know or someone’s privacy. What do you think about this? DO you consider this is a gift? thankyouu so much and I apologise for my English. I hope it’s good enough Scripture Images
Sadly, many people will look at us and judge us by appearances and as we’ve already read, they can miss-read us because they don’t see what’s on the inside which is what is of ultimate importance. Jesus said “You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one” (John 8:15). Every time that someone looks at us and they judge us by appearances, they are judging us by human standards and very likely miss-judging us. What they can’t see is what is most important anyway. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day were only concerned with what people saw them doing but God knew their hearts and saw that they were inwardly full of sin.
My friendship with him dissolved soon thereafter. I no longer felt like this was a teaching I could follow — the Holy Spirit led me away from it. Over the years, I continued to ask questions from time to time of people who I considered filled with the Spirit of God. Time and again, I would receive confirmation that tongues was an edification for the person, not God, and served no valid purpose in the way it is practiced by various Pentecostal and Charismatic churches. I also would encounter those that spoke in tongues. I would usually not react adversely in any way or judge that person, but I still did not feel at peace with it. Now, let me clarify that with the statement that I believe if God the Spirit DID have a purpose that glorified Him and not the speaker, absolutely, He could bestow such a gift upon him — as He WILLS and for His glory. Are there people that speak in tongues today? I’m sure there are. Does the language always come from God? Hmmm, now that’s a good question and one that is between God and the person doing the speaking. Bible Verse Wall Art
He really began to assert his independence covered by ‘transparent’ LYING after our first child was born and his mom died. He had a brief emotional adulterous relationship with a woman at work that I discovered and I took action to go to her and relate to her that God’s best man for any woman would not be another woman’s wife. I ministered and prayed with her …she then called me to apologize and quit her job and left town …I was not until just lately I found out that she was a married woman ! SO my husband has never been transparent and still is not being so . He simply does not have the ‘skills’ to call upon himself to be truthful . Bible Scripture Images
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; ...
The next gift is the ability to speak in different tongues (v 10). This has been one of the most controversial and most misunderstood gifts of all. When the original outpouring of the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost, there were many speaking in tongues. Paul wrote about tongues extensively in 1 Corinthians, chapters twelve through fourteen, but he was reproving the Corinthians for misusing the gift. It’s very difficult out of this passage to get any kind of mandate to speak in tongues, to get any kind of affirmation that this is something to be sought, because what you have here are primarily corrective orders given to the Corinthians. They had actually prostituted the gift of tongues into something pagan that wasn’t even representative of the work of the Spirit. All you need to do is to go back to Acts 2 and read verse 4, “They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other languages”. The literal translation in Greek is “glossa” and means tongues. This same word “glossa” (language) is used again in Acts 2:11. This means it is a known language not some unknown tongue. Then it says (in Acts 2:5-11) that there were unbelievers present at Pentecost and were hearing God’s message in their own “dialektos” dialects or language: “Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues” (dialektos or dialects)! So there were unbelievers present at Pentecost hearing God’s message in their own languages and their own local dialects, not ecstatic gibberish.
I think many of us struggle with the way we look. If we only understood that God made us the way we are we might think that other’s expectations and our own isn’t important. The way that God sees us is the most important thing of all because God doesn’t look at the outward appearance the way that we or others tend to do. Many people judge us from our outward appearance and not by what is inside. What is inside is what really counts in God’s eyes and in God’s eyes it’s the only thing that’s important. The outward man or woman is not of eternal importance…it is what is inside as Jesus once said “it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person” (Matt 15:11) so we must keep our focus on what really defiles a person and it’s not what’s outside that does it but what comes out of the person’s mouth for that reveals what’s in our hearts.
Hello Pastor Jack! Thank you for a great article. I completely understand the confusion and hesitancy to believe that miracles, healings, and tongues could exist today. But when I read in the Bible about how such great wonders were done back then I think to myself “Why couldn’t such things happen today within the church?” I believe it’s because we’ve set limits to what we think is possible in our day. But is anything impossible for our God? If we let Him work in us and through us anything is possible. With regards to speaking in tongues, I can testify that tongues can be both a known and unknown language. Several years ago I left a women’s retreat speaking in tongues. While the Spirit spoke through me in what sounded to me as an unknown language, my husband understood what I was saying in his native language, spanish. I had no idea what God told him at the time because it was a message only for him at that moment. That same night the Spirit sent me to call someone else who I spoke to in this unknown language and they understood me in english. I encourage you to seek further with the Lord; experiencing these gifts are too wonderful to pass up! For me, I felt closer to the Lord, like He was allowing me to participate in His plans in a very unique and special way. God bless you! Scripture Images
Went to ER and of course five hrs later after sitting still I was much better. Dr could hear wheezing comming from throat but said that while I may have asthma, that would not cause me to loose voice for this long. Ordered chest and throat xray which were clear. Said that something is causing airway obstruction/swelling which is not good, we need to find cause because they hospitalize people for airway issues. Ordered me to see specialist so he can scope my airway and determine the cause…it can be as simple as reflux disease, which I am not having symptoms of, or it can be much more serious. In meantime, I was put on double dose of steroids for five days. Plus reflux meds in case that the case until I can see specialist.
I have enjoyed so many good things in my life despite the way my husband pretty much lived his life independent of any real participation in our marriage since he was ‘climbing the corporate ladder’ and began to reject the Lord in order not to offend those he preferred to please …which would be all of those who he worked with and made friends with. That pretty much put me on the outside of his life.
Hope everything else is well. I spent last night in the ER. After a month of wheezing nightly and no voice, I finally got voice back yesturday, still wheezy but not as bad. I was so excited. Then about 3/4 thru my shift we lost all our staffing and I spent 1 1/2 hrs running my tail off…I was running 3 self check, a reg. register, had a constant code 3, and customers screaming at me to move faster while demanding managers who were not available. When it ended my voice was gone, I was gasping for air, coughing, and wheezing very loud. I then hear a man asking me how long I have been like this. I tell him I have just been diagnosed with what they believe to be adult onset asthma and have been having issues with breathing nightly and no voice for a month. He informs me he has asthma and he can hear me standing acrossed the room. That my eyes are buldging, skin color bad, and showing the sign of not getting enough air. Ask about my inhaler which I took two hrs before and had not helped at all. Says the voice is due to airway obstruction and by the way he is an er nurse one step from his PA license. He tells me to get to er and tell them I am acute and past stage inhaler will work. I need nebulizer treatment and not to take no for an answer. I tell him I can’t afford it and he responds…can you afford a 25,000 bill if you survive when you black out and if you don’t kill yourself or somebody else cause you do it while driving? Then tells me that it is not understood that putting in an airway on asthmatics who have closed up is not easy and not always possible. So I finally gave in when he threatend to return in a few days and pitch a scene if I tell him I have not been to er. Been asking God why I am not better so how do I argue when apparently God sent free medical advice to me at work while I was having a bad attack. Bible Verse Wall Art
Thank you for your article , I don’t agree with you when you said healing is of the new testament. In a way you’re saying that the God that worked with the apostles in the new testament is not the same working with us today when the Word of God clearly tells us he’s the same yesterday, today and forever. And since these is the same God, what he did yesterday he can also do today and forever. Please let’s stop limiting our God we put him in a box and he’s bigger than a box. Healing is for our time just like it was in the old and new testament IT IS THE SAME TODAY. HE IS THE SAME GOD. Scripture Images
The next gift Paul mentions is the gift of interpretation of tongues (v 10). This gift is someone who is able to interpret another tongue or language. I am bilingual and can speak English and Spanish but I would not say that I have this gift necessarily. Some have a natural gift or ability to learn a foreign language. It was not natural nor did it come easy for me. For those who this is easy, then they may be imbued with such a gift. If anyone was speaking in tongues in the church, there absolutely had to be someone there to interpret or they were to be silent. And no more than one person was to speak in tongues because there is only one interpreter available to translate at a time. If several were speaking in tongues at the same time, there would be confusion and God is not the author of confusion, but He is the God of order (1 Cor 14:33). It would not be edifying the church to have several speaking in tongues at the same time and with no one to interpret. Tongues are a sign for unbelievers and not for the church. Paul writes, “In the Law it is written: ‘With other tongues and through the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.’ Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers” (1 Cor. 14: 21-22). Isaiah 28:11-12 is where Paul quotes Isaiah the prophet, “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, ‘This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.’” This clearly indicates that the gift of tongues (Greek for languages) and the interpretation of them is that of a known language as a witness to unbelievers.
Again my Brother my hearts desire is for believers to be taught and led by the Spirit of God so the can experience the word of God as a tangible reality. That is why I believe the Bible and know it is the word of God. I know it is important that everything must line up with scripture. But many things we believe are not written in the Bible like the word “trinity” but we all know there is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Bible Verse Wall Art
