Thank you for your question my friend. Something just doesn’t sound right. This laying hands on your forehead and then speaking to you in tongues doesn’t sound biblical. Is it the Holy Spirit? I do not think it is because the Holy Spirit always points to glorify Jesus Christ and focus exclusively on Him and never man or his gifts. You are not questioning the Holy Spirit, so you are fine…what you are doing is seeking to find the truth and it obviously doesn’t feel right and I don’t think it is. I would talk to a pastor of another denomination. If you speak to the pastor of this church you had this experience in, then he will likely support this. Biblical Verses Image
I could share many more experiences of the tangible manifestation of the word of God. But I remember the Holy Spirit telling don’t go chasing after miracles, but chase after the God of the word, and miracles will come as needed. He told me that the devil knows the words of the Bible better than any Christian does. Satan can quote the Bible word for word. even letter by letter, even though he does not have the understanding of it that we can receive from the Holy Spirit. He can perform deceptive miracles, and twist our understanding of what it says. I remember my father was a member of a demonic cult that claimed to believe in Jesus. They prayed for a cousin of mine that was blind and he received his sight.
Sadly, many people will look at us and judge us by appearances and as we’ve already read, they can miss-read us because they don’t see what’s on the inside which is what is of ultimate importance.  Jesus said “You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one” (John 8:15).  Every time that someone looks at us and they judge us by appearances, they are judging us by human standards and very likely miss-judging us.  What they can’t see is what is most important anyway.  The religious leaders of Jesus’ day were only concerned with what people saw them doing but God knew their hearts and saw that they were inwardly full of sin. Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of their fathers' households, made an offering (they were the leaders of the tribes; they were the ones who were over the numbered men). When they brought their offering before the LORD, six covered carts and twelve oxen, a cart for every two of the leaders and an ox for each one, then they presented them before the tabernacle. Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, read more. Scripture Images

I know many other Christians are feeling His call more than ever. He is prompting me to study, dive into His Word, learn from others that are His teachers and spend more quality time with Him. I am waiting on His leading and for Him to point the way. I will do whatever He wants me to do, go where ever He wants me to go — in His name, for His glory.
Glad to be of any help Pastor. I have an old computer too and was told it was unfixable two yrs ago. God blessed me with a coworker who was former MI intelligence. He took my computer home, used his to boot it up since we were unable to even start it. I had gotten a bug that my antivirus missed and it attacked my windows start up program. He rewrote my program which is now a lost art amoung most computer techs who rely on programs to diagnoise and fix issues. Ask around and maybe you will find an old programer who knows dos. My computer had to have some memory added as its about ten yrs old, runs a little slow but form basic use, its fine.
What are these gifts of the Spirit? How can you know that you have particular gifts of the Spirit? Can others give us an indication of what our gift is? What does the believer do with these gifts in the church? Are some gifts more important than others? Are the gifts of healing still being accessed today by believers? Is the gift of miracles still existent in the church today?

"If you happen to come upon a bird's nest along the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the mother sitting on the young or on the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the young; you shall certainly let the mother go, but the young you may take for yourself, in order that it may be well with you and that you may prolong your days.

Brother Jack I didn,t mean to sound like I was saying that a person has all the gifts at one time and what I ment when I said that people have a hard time beleaving that god gives tongues today is there are so many people saying they are not for us today but they say the other gifts are for us today it seems they beleave in the other gifts but not in tongues . I was not meaning it was necessary that all should speak in tongues but many people don,t want any thing to do with tongues even tho they are a gift of the spirit . would that not be quenching or resisting the spirit if he wanted to give that gift to some one and they didn,t want any thing to do with tongues . no not all have the gift of tongues . not all have the other gifts but the spirit gives the gifts to who he wants too but with the population as big as it is a million people may have the same gift another million may have a different gift but all the gifts are for the church to have .
I think many of us struggle with the way we look.  If we only understood that God made us the way we are we might think that other’s expectations and our own isn’t important.  The way that God sees us is the most important thing of all because God doesn’t look at the outward appearance the way that we or others tend to do.  Many people judge us from our outward appearance and not by what is inside.  What is inside is what really counts in God’s eyes and in God’s eyes it’s the only thing that’s important.  The outward man or woman is not of eternal importance…it is what is inside as Jesus once said “it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person” (Matt 15:11) so we must keep our focus on what really defiles a person and it’s not what’s outside that does it but what comes out of the person’s mouth for that reveals what’s in our hearts.

All the more needed for parents to learn from the Lord the scriptures and teach them to their children. The devil , the enemy of our souls is intent to gain the teaching of children now younger and younger , taking over what GOD ordained father’s to do . The ongoing programming of young minds has ‘rewarded’ our society with a bitter crop of those who are more and more only concerned with getting what they ‘need’ in terms of feelings, lusts and lives lived independently without any accountability to anyone. How true this is.  You can put lipstick and earrings on a pig but inwardly they’re still a pig so Peter writes that “the hidden person of the heart” is precious to God and the “imperishable beauty of a gentle and quite spirit” to God is “very precious” and that’s all that matters eternally.  We’ll all get new bodies someday anyway and so why should we be so preoccupied with what we look like when God only cares about what we are like on the inside?
Then Hazael king of Aram went up and fought against Gath and captured it, and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem. Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own sacred things and all the gold that was found among the treasuries of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent them to Hazael king of Aram. Then he went away from Jerusalem. Scripture Images

To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 Bible Verse Wall Art
Thank you Jerry…yes, it is time to move on as we can agree to disagree and not be disagreeable as you have not been and you are not or have been disagreeable and I thank you for that. Since not all, even in the early church, Paul wrote that not all speak with tongues, then clearly Augustine was wrong and certainly I must believe what is in the Bible over these early church fathers. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay (called discernment).” These are important gifts and some of them are similar to but different from the gifts of the Spirit that Paul talks about in the New Testament in I Corinthians chapter twelve. There are nine gifts of the Spirit mentioned by Paul in I Corinthians chapter twelve: Biblical Verses Image
'Thus says the Lord GOD, "If the prince gives a gift out of his inheritance to any of his sons, it shall belong to his sons; it is their possession by inheritance. "But if he gives a gift from his inheritance to one of his servants, it shall be his until the year of liberty; then it shall return to the prince. His inheritance shall be only his sons'; it shall belong to them.

I have struggled with this question, literally, for years — at least 30, I would say. It began with an experience that occurred when I was friends with a young man who was Charismatic and was, he, himself, very charismatic! He introduced me to the concept of speaking in tongues. He did it himself and encouraged me to do so as well. As I look back on it, I felt like he PRESSURED me to speak in tongues, making me feel like I was missing something if I didn’t. It made me feel inadequate as a Christian and I so wanted to be fulfilled by everything the Spirit had to offer, yet, somehow, I could just not muster a syllable. Then one evening, we had a small prayer group of mostly his friends that I had become acquainted with and they laid hands on me. I opened my mouth and out spilled this gobbledy-gook of words that I knew in my heart I was just making up so that I could prove to them that I had the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I felt shame, not joy. I continued to fake it, questioning the depth of my faith and why the Spirit was not giving me this gift.

Hi Jerry, Thank you for your great response. I have no doubt that the Spirit moves you in your prayer to speak in tongues. Paul said he spoke in tongues more than all of them. I just don’t happen to have that gift. I also don’t think that I have a gift of miracles either. I have some other gifts that are very strong, however, and I am prayerfully seeking His will. That is not to say that at some point God might bestow a gift of tongues upon me if it was His will and was for His glory. I read Pastor Jack’s response as well and will restate that not all people have all gifts. Paul was very clear about that point. A day may come when God needs me to speak to someone whose language I don’t know, I have no doubt that He would use me as He needed me and I would speak in tongues, as I am His willing vessel. Your replies are a great testimony to me of grace as you endeavor to set what the Word says before the reader for consideration. I know that with so many ‘teachers’ that gather a following in the name of Jesus that there are many who have a tenderness and favor toward what is taught as they are convinced of that perspective being truth. I think it is great that people love the teacher they have but there is a need for awareness that we MUST be convinced by what Scripture says rather than leaning upon our own UNDERSTANDING. Hi Deanna…In my experience I would say for a Christian to hear these things the answer is no. They come from Satan and the only way a Christian would hear or see these thing would be if it were a form of attack, not a gift. From experience, Spiritual attacks are scary stuff and not a gift at all! These things usually happen to discourage the believer from following the faith and lead them astray…from the path God wishes for them. I have known them to occur people who have been involved in things of the occult and they were attacked as they found their faith. Satan didn’t want them to go to God! Other times, Ministers and those who are currently being used by God for something, have been attacked spiritually in such ways. However Spiritual attack can come in many forms, not just the supernatural scary stuff. In my case, as I learn how to repel one type of attack, Satan hits me the next time with something stronger and unfamilar. He is not very nice as I am sure you know and will try anything to keep us from full filling Gods plan. Bible Verse Wall Art

The next gift of the Spirit is that of knowledge (v 8). Some people have such a gift of remembering scriptures. They have knowledge of God and His ways. They seem to be able to quickly distinguish which is biblical and which is not. Some translations say it is the “Word” of knowledge while others say that it is the “utterance” of knowledge. The Word is most certainly the Word of God. The “utterance” of knowledge could indicate that those with the gift of knowledge know when to speak particular words, when not to, and what words to speak with. Both words seem to fulfill what true knowledge is. These with this gift make excellent teachers, deacons, elders, or pastors. Bible Scripture Images

Anthony…I nearly wept for you in joy…what an answer to prayer. Thank you for sharing this. This makes me so joyful knowing that you will have the Body of Christ there to surround you and be part of that Body. Yes, I too am in awe of God. He is so good…and knew exactly where to send you and when. I thank God for this answer and glory to Jesus’ name and I thank God for knowing you too Anthony.
Since I learned that the thoughts that came to mind which were scripture were actually the way that the Spirit of GOD ‘spoke ‘ to me and that the whole word of GOD is God’s VOICE in how HE teaches us by His spirit then I became free of the way others’ who seemed to have more authority were my teachers. Lifting up men is not useful and oftentimes is destructive . This is where the false teachers take advantage for their own agendas. Bible Scripture Images

While many white musicians gravitated toward country, folk, and old-timey music to express their spirituality outside of traditional Christian hymns, Black Gospel music drew heavily upon the traditional spirituals that had been passed down from the days of slavery, picking up its more driving rhythmic emphasis from blues and early jazz. Composer and singer Thomas A. Dorsey crystallized the style in 1932 with his epochal "Take My Hand, Precious Lord," and went on to compose a great many songs that later became standards. When performed in the churches, the music was traditionally sung by a choir, with individual soloists sometimes taking the spotlight; this often happened in a form known as "call and response," in which either the choir or the soloist would repeat and/or answer the lyric which had just been sung by the other, with the soloist improvising embellishments of the melody for greater emphasis. As the music developed, these soloists became more and more virtuosic, performing with wild emotion (and, in the South, physicality) in order to properly express the spiritual ecstasy the music was meant to evoke. The music was quite egalitarian in terms of gender, as both male and female performers -- Brother Joe May, Rev. James Cleveland, Mahalia Jackson, the Clara Ward Singers, etc. -- gained wide renown among both black and white audiences. The small-group format was also prevalent, with major figures including the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, the Soul Stirrers, the Swan Silvertones, and the Dixie Hummingbirds; in general, these groups placed a greater premium on smooth vocal harmonies, although some performances could approach the raucous energy (if not quite the huge sound) of a choir-with-soloist group. As the years progressed, black gospel and black popular music influenced and borrowed from one another, reflecting the gradual change of emphasis toward R&B; black gospel also had an enormous impact on the development of soul music, which directed gospel's spiritual intensity into more secular concerns, and included a great many performers whose musical skills were developed in the church. As a recognizable style unto itself, black gospel music largely ceased to develop around the 1970s; progressing racial attitudes had helped black popular music reach wider audiences (and become more lucrative) than ever before, and tastes had turned towards the earthy hedonism of funk and the highly arranged, sophisticated Philly soul sound. The former wasn't quite appropriate for worship, and it wasn't all that practical to duplicate the latter in church services. However, the traditional black gospel sound survived intact and was eventually augmented by contemporary gospel (an '80s/'90s variation strongly influenced by latter-day urban R&B); plus, singers like Whitney Houston continued to develop within its ranks.
